Our Mission

Safety Components primary focus is in the design and production of textiles for markets which include fire service, military, outdoor fabrics, aerospace escape slides, fuel cells, and automotive air bag fabrics. Safety Components also produces a wide array of highly technical fabrics for industrial and commercial applications such as filtration, specialty military, composites, tire manufacturing, and coated fabrics.

 

It is our mission to develop innovative and cutting edge fabrics that maximize the highest quality and highest strength raw materials available in today’s marketplace. Our product development staff works in conjunction with customers and valued suppliers to design products that are functional, meet customer specifications, and ultimately raise the bar of product performance.

Facilities

Safety Components’ manufacturing facility is located in Greenville, South Carolina on 22 acres of land. The 800,000 square foot facility contains all facets necessary to manufacture, test, and warehouse Safety Components products.

 

Trained associates armed with the latest in fabric formation technology and equipment produce a diverse array of technical fabrics. Applications include firefighter turnout gear, gear, flame resistant military uniforms, fuel cells, oil booms, soft armor, filter media, air bags, ballistic luggage, and aircraft escape slides.

 

All fabrics are produced, tested, and inspected to the industry’s highest standards. Safety Components maintains ISO 9001:2008, TS 16949, and ISO 14001 certifications. Our fabric testing laboratories are ISO 17025 approved, ASTM (North America), DIN (Europe), and JIS (Asia) certified. For over 100 years we have maintained the highest reputation for product quality, product innovation, product diversity, and on-time delivery.

Laboratory

Safety Components maintains two separately conditioned physical laboratories as well as a specialized area for both chemical and performance screening. All laboratory inspection, measuring, and testing equipment is under calibration control with traceability to NIST or equivalent standards.

 

The Safety Components laboratory is responsible for developing and participating in ASTM sponsored proficiency testing studies for a wide variety of textiles. Our laboratory is accredited to perform or consult within a wide range of standards and testing procedures.

 

Safety Components makes available Laboratory and Quality Assurance staff to assist customers with the proper selection of testing protocols, test methods, and quality system development training.

 

Our Laboratory and Quality Assurance Departments are staffed by personnel who are trained as quality system auditors in accordance with the standards of ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 9001:2008, and ISO/IEC TS-16949.

Accreditations

American Association of Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), in accordance with the requirements set forth by ISO/IEC 17025, accredits the Safety Components laboratory. Our laboratory is your point of contact for technical and testing questions. Underwriters Laboratories (UL) audits Safety Components laboratory for proficiency and competence to test fire service materials currently listed in the registration program pertaining to the requirements of NFPA 1971.

 

Safety Components laboratory has a comprehensive scope of accreditations using consensus methods from domestic and international standards. These include ASTM, AATCC, NFPA, ISO, DIN, and JIS L-1096. Other mechanical tests may be evaluated upon request.
